Motorized Shades in Tucson

Automated window treatments that close against the Tucson afternoon sun before it heats the room — Lutron, Control4, Crestron and Savant.

Motorised shading does more work in Tucson than almost anywhere in the country. A west-facing wall of glass in a Catalina Foothills or Dove Mountain home is beautiful at seven in the evening and brutal at four in the afternoon. Shades on an automated schedule close before the sun hits, not after the room is already hot — which is the difference between reducing a cooling load and reacting to one.

The second reason people here install them is fade. Arizona sun destroys upholstery, rugs, artwork and hardwood, and it does it faster than owners expect. Solar screens on a schedule protect the room during the hours you are not in it, then open again for the view.

We install motorised roller shades, solar screens, drapery track and specialty shapes, hardwired or battery, and integrate them with lighting, HVAC and your automation platform so 'movie', 'goodnight' and 'away' each move the shades to where they should be. We are a Lutron authorised dealer and also deliver shading through Control4, Crestron Home and Savant.

Motorized Shades in Tucson — common questions

Do motorized shades really reduce cooling costs in Tucson?
Blocking solar gain before it enters the room is materially more effective than cooling the room afterwards, and on large west-facing glazing the effect is significant. We will not put a percentage on it, because it depends entirely on your glazing area, orientation, glass type and habits — but the physics is not in question, and scheduling the shades to close ahead of the peak is what makes it work.
Can shades be added to a house that is already built?
Yes. Battery-powered motorised shades retrofit into finished homes with no wiring at all, and hardwired options are practical wherever we can reach the head rail. This is routine retrofit work for us.
How long do the batteries last?
It depends on shade size, weight and how often they move — typically a year or more on a normal schedule. For large shades or high-cycle rooms we generally recommend hardwiring, and we will say so at the quote rather than after.
Can the shades work with my existing automation system?
Yes — Lutron shading integrates cleanly into Control4, Crestron Home and Savant, all of which we are authorised for.
