What a Control4 Certified Showroom Actually Means

There is a real standard behind the badge. What it takes to qualify, and why using a working system beats reading a spec sheet.

Plenty of companies say they are a Control4 dealer. Far fewer are a Control4 Certified Showroom, and the difference is a specific standard rather than a marketing tier.

The requirement

A Certified Showroom is a dealer location that maintains a genuinely working, professionally installed Control4 system that customers can walk in and use. Not a display of boxes. Not a touchscreen on a stand running a demo loop. Working lighting, working audio, working video, working shades, integrated the way they would be in a home, kept current as the platform changes.

That last part is what makes it a standing commitment rather than a one-time badge: the showroom has to keep pace with the product.

We were recognised with the 2023 Certified Showroom award, presented by Snap One, Control4's parent company.

Why it matters to you, practically

You cannot evaluate this from a brochure

Automation is an experience product. The question that decides whether you are happy in year three is not which processor is in the rack — it is whether the interface makes sense to you, whether your partner will use it, whether the lighting scenes feel right, whether the voice control understands normal sentences.

None of that is answerable on paper. Twenty minutes with a working system answers all of it.

You can compare platforms side by side

We are authorised for Control4, Crestron Home, Savant, Lutron and Josh.ai. Because we carry five platforms rather than one, the showroom visit is genuinely a comparison rather than a demonstration of the only thing we sell. People frequently arrive convinced of one platform and leave having chosen another — that is the system working as intended.

It tells you something about the dealer

Maintaining a certified showroom is expensive: the space, the equipment, the labour to keep it current. A company willing to carry that cost is a company that expects to still be here to service what it sells. In an industry where "the company that installed this is no longer around" is one of the most common opening lines on our service calls, that is not nothing.

What to do while you are here

Bring the real questions:

  • Ask to run a scene and then change it. Adding a light to "movie" should take seconds, not a service call.
  • Try the voice control with a compound sentence. "Turn off the kitchen lights and close the blinds" is the test — not "turn off the lights."
  • Operate it from the wall keypad, not just the app. Keypads are what the household will actually use daily.
  • Ask what happens when the internet drops. On a properly designed system, local control keeps working.
  • Ask what a service call costs and how quickly it happens. We run our own service department with its own service manager.
